Thermally matched shafts

THERMALLY MATCHED SHAFTS TWO ENDS SUPPORTONE END SUPPORT

You may use a stainless shaft to support a high temperature pulley submerged in corrosive bath at room temperature. However, as the bath temperature arises stainless steel expands 2 - 3 times faster then ceramics, ultimately ruin the ceramic bearing. Therefore we offer thermally matched alumina shafts factory-fit onto the ceramic bearing mounted pulley of our produce(see Figure 2). These alumina shafts may be supported either at 2 ends or at one end (see Figure 3 and 4 respectively). The one end support is also known as a cantilever.

The 2-end support offers a radial load capacity 2 times that of the cantilever, other parameters being equal. The recommended speed and load capacities of the ceramic bearings with alumina shaft are tabulated below. The distance between the support(s) has been arbitrarily chosen for reference.

Non-sticking groove surface                                                           NT 024 from a tin bath

Ceramic pulleys without diamond polishing, when submerged in molten metallic baths, suffer from metal adhesion, calling for frequent cleaning, adding to machine downtime. Our high temperature pulleys feature a non-sticking, diamond polished surface, which eliminates metal adhesion. The photo at right was taken of a NT 024 - 6200 TZP high temperature pulley removed from a molten tin bath, showing no trace of tin adhesion.
